CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR
LOUISIANA SCHOOL NURSES
Type C – Valid for 3 years; renewable for one three-year period upon request of
employing authority.
Applicant must meet ALL of the following criteria:
- Hold a current license as a professional Registered Nurse in the State of Louisiana; and
- Have a minimum of 2 years full-time experience as a Registered Nurse.
Type B - Valid for 5 years and renewable if nurse holds an approved Baccalaureate Degree, or upon completion of 6 semester hours of nursing, school nursing or other health related subjects.
Applicant must meet ALL of the following criteria:
- Hold a current license as a professional Registered Nurse in the State of Louisiana, and
- Have a minimum of 3 years experience as a Type C School Nurse, and
- Have completed at least 6 semester hours of nursing, school nursing or other health related subjects from an approved and regionally accredited college/university.
Type A - Valid for life of continuous service as a School Nurse.
Applicant must meet ALL of the following criteria:
- Hold a current license as a professional Registered Nurse in the State of Louisiana and has a Baccalaureate Degree from a regionally accredited college/university in Nursing or other approved health related curriculum, and
- Have a minimum of 5 years experience as a Type B School Nurse.
